The Tank Man story
On June 5, 1989—the day after Chinese soldiers massacred protesters in and around Beijing's Tiananmen Square—one man stood alone in front of a column of tanks rolling down Chang'an Avenue.
He had no weapon, just a shopping bag. He stopped the tanks in their tracks. When they tried to go around him, he moved with them. He climbed on top. Then he was taken away.
Foreign journalists captured it all from their hotel balconies. The photo went everywhere—except inside China, where the CCP has spent 37 years trying to erase his memory. To this day, no one knows his name.
Now, you can refuse to let Tank Man be forgotten.
